Facial feminization surgery (FFS) includes a range of procedures designed to create a more traditionally feminine facial appearance. These procedures can reshape the forehead, brow, cheekbones, lips, jaw, and chin. They may also involve hair transplants or adjusting the hairline to create a smaller forehead. FFS can be performed on individuals of any gender and is often sought by those experiencing distress when their gender identity does not align with their assigned sex at birth or sex-related physical features. By refining facial contours, FFS can help individuals achieve facial harmony that better reflects their gender identity.
Facial features such as the forehead, brow, jaw, and chin often reflect sex-related differences. Unlike other parts of the body that can be covered or concealed, the face is always visible. Our center employs a Hidden Scar Technique. Rather than placing an incision directly over the larynx, we utilize a cervicomental incision placed strategically within the natural crease where the chin meets the neck. As shown in the illustration, this allows the incision to be visible only when the neck is extended; in a neutral, forward-facing position, the resulting scar is completely concealed.
To ensure the highest standard of safety, we perform a meticulous anatomical evaluation of the laryngeal structures. The vocal cord attachments are precisely identified and marked on the cartilage prior to any reduction. This allows us to shave the thyroid notch to its maximum safe limit while strictly protecting the integrity of your voice and airway.
Hair transplantation in facial feminization surgery (FFS) helps create a more traditionally feminine hairline by filling in receding areas or lowering the forehead. This procedure involves transferring hair follicles from denser areas, such as the back of the scalp, to the desired regions. It can soften a high or masculine-patterned hairline, enhance facial harmony, and provide a natural, fuller appearance, contributing to a more feminine overall look.
During hairline-lowering surgery, a cut is made at the edge of the hairline. Then the scalp is moved and fixed to bone lower on the forehead. Extra forehead skin is removed.
