Feminizing hormone therapy does not affect vocal pitch, so some transgender women choose voice feminization surgery to achieve a voice that aligns more closely with their gender identity.
At the LGBTQ+ Center, this surgery involves shortening the vocal cords to raise both the average fundamental frequency (average 𝑓₀) and the minimum fundamental frequency (Min 𝑓₀), the lowest pitch within the physiological range.
Transgender women may choose to undergo a range of surgical procedures, such as facial feminization surgery, breast augmentation, voice feminization surgery, thyroid cartilage reduction, and gender affirmation surgery. At the LGBTQ+ Center, we work closely with each patient thorough consultations to determine the most appropriate sequence of procedures. Whenever possible, we also offer the option of performing certain surgeries simultaneously through multidisciplinary collaboration, ensuring a coordinated approach to the overall transition process.
